Loose Leash Walking. Let’s talk about proper leash manners.

Let’s talk about proper leash etiquette, shall we?

Leash pulling is a result of a few different things:

1. Lack of training: Most dogs need to be taught proper leash manners. This can be done with guidance, patience, high value treats and consistency.

2. Excess Energy: Mental and Physical exercise can help burn extra energy and make your walk more manageable.

3. Curiosity: Dogs may pull on the lease to investigate certain smells, sites or sounds.

4. Not being Socialized: Socializing your dog to other dogs, people or different environments can improve their confidence and release leash pulling tendencies.

Luckily, these are things that can be corrected.

Here are a few tips to set you and your pal up for a lifetime full of fun outings together!

1. Begin training in a quite, distraction-free environment and reward with high value treats!

2. It sounds weird, but walk with confidence!

3. A short structured walk will be far more beneficial and stimulating than a long unstructured walk.

Teaching your dog more cues and commands not only helps better their behaviors but is a mentally enriching activity that strengthens the connection with your pal! 🐕
